01. Lonely Star - 6/10
(Works well as an intro into the story that is this mixtape. It seems like he touches on fame while telling Her that she can have it all and be a star, aluding to the fact that he sees himself as a lonely star. The mash of sample taken from Kanye West's Robocop is a bit much but it still works.)
02. Life of the Party - 3/10
(Another sample used by West, from Monster, this time with picks from guitar to create a hypnotic reggae tone. Here, Weeknd sings to a girl that she is the life of the party. Seems like something is missing from both lyrical content and his choice in instrumental.)
03. Thursday - 8/10
(Instant favourite from the get go. Simple hook of, "Make sure you are thursday" breaks through a bridge carrying "Not on monday, tuesday, wednesday, friday, saturday, or sunday, but on thursday", amist a slow tempo. Easily a song for the bedroom, much like HOB.)
04. The Zone - 9/10
(Amazing mix of high melody bleeding over low bass and the trans of keys and guitar notes echoing inbetween. Drake makes an appearance.)
05. The Birds Part I - 9/10
(If Thursday was an EP, this song would easily be it's lead single. "Don't make me make you fall in love"; catchy, and it easily captures the feeling of meeting someone new at the start of a relationship after your last one didn't workout and your not trying to get caught up again.)

(Follow up to The Birds, a continued warning before getting into a relationship but much more striped down and slowed. Easily another song for the bedroom.)
07. Rolling Stone - 9/10
(One of the only songs in which Weeknd doesn't overdo any mastering effects and his voice is bare for everyone to hear. He metaphorically compares himself being faded to himself changing from the fame. "Till your used to my face, and my mystery fades, I got you, so baby love me, before they all love me, until you won't love me, because they all left me, I'll be different, I think I'll be different, I hope I'm not different, and I hope you'll still listen, but until then, I got you".)
08. Gone - 7/10 8/10
(Very poppy, then again, this is Abel at his roots. "Theres enough to pass around, just break it, drop it, drink it, spill it, baby, touch your body", he sings, "I've been gone". Sexy sounding. Think Justin Timberlake on Futuresex/Lovesounds. A bit of auto tune near the fadeout then a fadein of drums and hes back to singing "So I'll fuck you if you need, in your birthday suit, I'ma give you what you need", an ode to every stripper.)
09. Heaven or Las Vegas - 7/10
(Back to the West sample and guitar picks from earlier, he also adds the Say You Will at opening. Weeknd branches out of his usual once more with, "I'm paying for all my father's sins, so I'ma thank him for you... My serotonin is gone awhile ago, girl it's gone cause of you". Very jamrock this time around, and definitely a song you can see Weeknd performing to live up his future sets with.)
