Because I'm a true Drake fan from back when dude used to spend his summers in Memphis....Bad choice for the single, Aub what was you trying to do with this? Seems like a mix of mainstream, pop, little hip hop, and I don't know what else. Everyone is jumping on this like it's the greatest song ever but I expected something hip hop, something with stronger lyrics and a better beat. Marvin's Room and Dreams Money Can Buy were game changing and I thought Headlines would really show of the rapping and lyricism but this shit is a bad attempt at getting a single on the pop charts. Come on Drake go in son, this song is some bull.

“Headlines” is a surprisingly upbeat track with production credits going to right-hand producer/engineer, Noah “40″ Shebib, and his go-to single producer, Matthew "Boi-1da" Samuels.
We see a Lex Luger-esque drumkit along with fast-paced piano chords in a constant loop; needless to say, a fresh new sound for the OVO front man. Yet the tone on the track is the classic monotone/aggressive Drake fans have seen for years, reminiscent of last years "Over".
While most of the new material for his fans throughout summer has been consistently depressing love ballads (“Dreams Money Can Buy,” “Marvin’s Room,” “Trust Issues”). It was almost to be expected that the single would be likewise, but this is definitely the opposite.

Headlines feels like a prelude to Drakes inner most candid thoughts, feelings, and experiences since Thank Me Later. Play the track back and listen to what he's saying. I may or may not be able to change your opinion about it, but I feel that he's speaking from a place of complexity. Through his art, he's taking you on a journey of his current life status, and what his future plans are. If an artist puts out crap, I'm positive the loyal fans who love good music will let them know what's up. Its only one track from the album, so let's all not crucify him before the album drops. iight so after listening to Headlines idk how many times I feel it's safe to say who's making album of the year

dope track that gets back after each listen.
It's odd that he gave "I'm On One" away when that one is actually more catchy than this. This is more complex structurally. It's not as accessible but it flows so much better.
Kinda addictive tbh. I like it..it's just not what I expected. I thought he'd be rapping more.

This is not awful or mediocre,
I know there has to be others who have followed Drake, from when all he had were a few unfinished songs before his first mixtape, to now. And, who will agree that this is not what you would expect at this point in his career as a single for a sophomore album.
He does pour out his thoughts thus far on the song, which is expected. However, The way he put it out there feels like the same old same. It's the story of how money/fame is eating away at his life - changing relationships with his friends, his girls, and other artists.
The picture for this song could have been painted so differently. Case in point, the song "Successful" parallels this VERY closely. Yet the way in which he painted the picture with his wording was remarkably different, and in my opinion much better.
That being said, I'm sure I will hear this song on the radio over and over again and after a few listens it won't seem so bad.

people need to shut up about the 'i miss the old drake' bullshit, he HASN'T CHANGED AT ALL. and if he did he basically called you out in 'somebody told me i fell off, oooo i needed that'. in my opinion he still is the same, when has he ever rapped about anything, but his LIFE? in EVERY song, he is talking directly about his life, maybe his flow changed, but that's it. but you're gonna judge something off a beat? drake even said HIMSELF his album is a new sound and he HATES SINGLES, because that's how people will judge his album. people think just because he put out 'marvins room' and 'trust issues' the single is gonna be R&B. GTFO. why the hell would drake put out a singing single as the FIRST single. im sure he satisfied your r&b taste with those 2 songs, and if you wanted a r&b single, go to somewhere else. for all the people saying drake changed, this is quote is for you, "And they say all I rap about is bitches and champagne, You would too if every night you seen the same thing".

@Anonymous, I also like the fact that you pointed out the fact that drake doesn't like singles, in fact, when over came out for "Thank me later", I thought it was great, but it turned out to be my least fav song on the album. Singles don't determine an album.
