To hear Drake say it-
the beef between him and Common is over.
During an interview with Nahright.com, the Toronto rapper said he doesn’t plan on responding to Common via his music anymore. The two rappers have been taking lyrical jabs at each other starting with Common’s release of his single “Sweet” and then with Drake’s retaliation on Rick Ross’ “Stay Schemin’” off his Rich Forever mixtape. Com went at Drizzy again on an unofficial remix of “Stay Schemin,’” as well. Rumors have it the disagreement is because of Common’s ex-girlfriend and Drake’s rumored fling, Serena Williams, although Common has denied the allegations.
But Drake says, as far as he’s concerned, the back-and-forth is done with. And when asked why, he responded,
“Because despite how it’s been worded by him that situation is not a ‘hip-hop moment’ or a ‘battle for the sake of musical integrity’… it’s a ploy for attention around the release of an album. More than anything, it was just disappointing cause what kid isn’t a fan of what Common has done for our genre. A guy who made such an incredible career for himself based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story.”
Drake also addressed another of his lines on “Stay Schemin’” on which he targets NBA player Kobe Bryant’s soon-to-be ex-wife, Vanessa Bryant,
“Kobe bout to lose 150 M’s / Kobe my n*gga, I hate it had to be him / B*tch, you wasn’t wit me shootin in the gym,” he spits on the track.
“That line came from a conversation about being this young and making this much money and the fear of losing it all,”
he explained.
“I just used his potential situation to address my own life. I never intended to offend Vanessa or anyone else. That line had everything to do with me and what goes on in my head as a 25-year-old man with this much income flowing in. Kobe is and always will be a friend and an icon to me.”
Drizzy cleared up rumors about his team disbanding, saying the “team is stronger than ever and ready for 2012.” He also added that he’s begun working on music for his next project already and plans on continuing to hit the booth during his college tour, which kicks off in March

In fact, to judge from this crew, everybody in Toronto is a creative individual with a pleasant-ass demeanor, racially integrated, well-adjusted, has free health care and is not broke.
