I WANT TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE THAT TRANSPIRED AT ELEMENT NIGHTCLUB IN LOS ANGELES ON SATURDAY MAY 23RD. ANYBODY THAT ATTENDED CLEARLY SAW ME ARRIVE AND LEAVE WIHTOUT THE PERFORMANCE THAT THEY WERE PROMISED. I LEFT THE VENUE BECAUSE THE PARTY WAS PROMOTED AS A FULL PERFORMANCE AND NOT AS A NIGHT THAT I WAS HOSTING. THE FLYER FOR THE PARTY SAID "MAIN SHOW" WHICH LEAD PEOPLE TO BELIEVE I WAS GIVING A SHOW AND ALLOWED PROMOTERS TO CHARGE 40 DOLLARS A PERSON. I HAD A SHOW AT CAL STATE THAT NIGHT AND AT NO TIME DID I INTEND TO DO ANOTHER SHOW AT ELEMENT. I WAS BEING PAID TO HOST A PARTY AND WHEN I SHOWED UP THE MONEY I WAS PROMISED FOR THAT SIMPLE TASK WAS SHORT. THE PROMOTERS WERE ASKING ME TO "JUST DO ONE OR TWO SONGS" AND LEAVE BUT I AM AN ARTIST AND I TAKE PRIDE IN THE SHOW I'VE PUT TOGETHER. I REFUSE TO STEP ON STAGE AND ALLOW PEOPLE TO BELIEVE THAT I AM OKAY WITH THEM PAYING 40 DOLLARS TO SEE ME RAP OVER TWO RECORDS THAT MY DJ PLAYS. I LOVE MY FANS TOO MUCH FOR THAT AND THEREFORE I LEFT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EXPLAINING THE MISHAP IN THE HANDS OF THE EVENT ORGANIZERS. I APOLOGIZE TO ANYBODY IN LA THAT WAS DECEIVED AND I PROMISE THAT WHEN I RETURN I WILL DRAIN MY BODY OF ALL ITS ENERGY WHEN I HIT THAT FUCKIN STAGE AND GIVE U ALL THE BEST PERFORMANCE I CAN. I LOVE YOU ALL.

don't think you should be apologizing for doing nothing wrong... good man for doing it, though.

Wow...I keep hearing about these janky promoters. That's truly messed up! I think you handled the situation well Drizzy and kudos to you for addressing the situation to your fans. We love you!!

Come and do a show in Calgary!!!! :) (my current home) And I second what foxxy said...

Well I was at CSULA that night and I just gotta let you know that that show was phenomenal. I could feel your energy from way up top, and even though I’ve been a fan for a while now, that concert simply confirmed that I’ll be a life long fan. Please come back out here asap, and if it’s before 2011, host an 18+ club so I can go to the after party. =] And as for Club Element, all your real fans know that you have integrity in your work and will understand your position.

No need to apologize because in the end your REAL fans knwo what's up. I got sick the day of the Cal State LA show so I missed your performance so come back to
the City of Angels ASAP.

JuniorSmith said...

I understand where your coming from but in all honesty as an artist who was an is still a fan u should understand what your fans who payed the 40 dollars+ to enter the club and see you perform would of been more then happy to see you get on the stage and do 2 or 3 songs. since your at a club nobody was expecting a full show performance. and would of took that as great.

For someone who is resently gettin the buzz that he has been deserving of since comeback season i think you might of forgot that its your fans who keep you afloat. I know you made the comment about your money being short. and for that you simply punish the club/promoters and refuse to work with them anymore. You DO NOT punish the fans.

Whats funny is i was not at the venue however i know that mysef along with fans who were there WOULD HAVE BEEN PISSED..

You could of even fipped it hit the stage and been like.. "well the promoters here promised both myself and you guys(fans) stuff that they did not deliver on. I never told them i was performing BUT because i love you guys(fans) so much...." and then the beat drops.

I just know you to be a humble guy and would of thought that you would of not left your fans hanging..

Dont 4get that al your fame can be taken away in a sec.. STAY HUMBLE

Kind of off-topic, but are you in any way affiliated with:

....because if not, someone is posing as you & even has an "official drake" pages joint on Facebook. Thousands of folks on there and not sure if this is really your joint.

Please clear that up.

The bouncers at the club were charging 60 dollars on top of the 20 dollar ticket to get people to the " front" of the line, im glad i saw u at Cal State L.a cuz element was a disaster, but it was all the promoters fault, we all know u LOVE l.a

D Brown said...

in response to the http://thisisdrake.blogspot.com/ being a fake...

so then the Official Drake page on facebook is ALSO a fake??

Brandi said...

I'm not from Cali and I didn't purchase tickets, so I can definitely believe, without bitterness, that you wouldn't have scheduled two shows in one night.

Frankly, it just wouldn't make sense. But why'd you post in all caps, booboo? Too much (only for me because it's my 21st birthday). Anyway. I always hear great comments about your shows, it sucks that so many people were misled, but keep it moving. I'm sure you'll give Cali more great shows in the future.

KalixxKing said...

my nigga I was at the club but i didnt pay 40 to get in. I was V.I.P but the promoters were sayin yea drake is performing so tickets arent gonna be cheap I knew that shit was all faulty tho bcuz 40 is steep for some people. You didnt do anything wrong tho so the fault is not on you... God bless brotha!

I'm glad to know this is what really happened because I was definitely pissed when they got on the mic and said you weren't coming out. They then proceed to talk sh*t, which was super unprofessional and tacky. Their trashy antics lead me to believe they were obviously doing dirty business and trying to take advantage of you and us unsuspecting fan. Anyways Drake, come back to LA soon && please please please try to make an appearance in Sacramento at some point in the fall. The Sac State Women's Track & Field team really love your music! Thanks

I was in there next to the dj booth and when I heard Drizzy back stage on the mic say..."this is not good" and saw his DJ uplugg his laptop, I knew what it was...

mzindependent187 said...

It is obvious you are dealing with very unprofessional people. I admire the passion of wanting to only give your fans the best. I think you need better management or PR. If you were my artist/client I would have made sure all the ducks were in a row and the event was promoted properly and correctly.

EtanClan said...

agreed.. ya might need some work on the management.. nice to hear the truth and know that you are there for your fans though.

i was at the show in chicago where you weren't on till 3 am (show was supposed to start at midnight) and people were reaaaaaallly restless. i mean most of the opening acts were boo'd off the stage (rightfully..) and the impatience could've even contributed to the fight that broke out...but the show was AWESOME (once you were on), it just sucked to wait for 3 hours after standing in line for another hour beforehand having my energy completely drained. it was even hard to get really into the music just because i was so tired.

while i doubt any fans were lost, it's just another reason to check into the management and PR so people can enjoy your performances even more.

Shawn said...

It's good that you cleared the situation up but there's no need to apologize for what clearly was the promoters' fault. Unfortunately some people will surely not accept this but what can u do...on the real though come do a show in jersey mayne

I was at the concert at Cal State LA and first off i would like to say that drake really did his thing he was amazing point blank. This guy has a lot of respect for the fans. After the show my friend and I had heard about an after party at element couple days before the concert which never said he was going to perform music they just implied it to make you think he was. They used the term perform very loosely because talking can be a form of a performance too technically. But we decided to go check it out last min. There were a lot of people outside and when we walked up there was a promoter talking to three girls about tickets they had told him that they had paid only 20 dollars for their tickets yesterday and the guys was like well if you need more i'll give them to you for 30 then he said hold up he left and came back and then said 60. The lines were outta hand and the security and promoters were trying to scam everyone. Everyone was pissed off and there was a guy who said he had been waitin a very long time but the security keeps taking the people who are paying more in first when he already had his presale ticket. Its funny how jittery all the guys who were working outside was too my friend and i decided not to even wait that long but you could definitely tell something sketch was going on and @ the guy who said drake could have performed anyway ur right but think about it this way if i paid you a small portion to just show up and think i could get a much more expensive performance outta it because they can make it look like he was the bad person thats just bad business. Although Drake is a great guy they tried to use him and i would have walked out too if music is my job i would need to get paid right for it. The problem wasn't even the money either it was just how everything went down they should have been honest with him he's not dumb. They got what they paid for he did show up they why a lawsuit against him won't be coming up.

Honestly, my artist "P.E.S.O." performed @ Element that night, and we were also mislead that it was going to be a Drake "Performance" not "Hosting" as well. P.E.S.O. did rock the crowd though, but everyone was there for Drake, I feel bad for everyone that came out and didn't get what they asked for, someone should be accountable such as the promoters.

The promoters in LA are just like that its not about the fans its just about the lil money they get at the end of the night. I was thinkin that sounded a lil funny that u was doin a performance cause I knew abt the show at CSUSB and I had an incident at club Sugar when the I Am Music tour was out here. They'll do anything to get someone to the club. Im just glad ur a real artist who cares abt his music and cares about the fans. You did no wrong, keep doin you drizzy!

to whoever just told Drake he needs new management.... rofl, get the fuck outta here. Wtf do you know about if his management is on point.

Booger Snots said...

The money should have been up front and the advertising should be approved by whoever your have working for you. Remember, though, the people that paid for that show got ripped off badly. That doesnt create good will. Although it is clearly not your fault, lets face it, people are always looking to scam you. If you watch out for it, then these things wont happen.

Hollywood said...

Sorry to say, but I knew that this wasn't going to pop off from jump. Drake performing at Element? Come on now!

This was not Drake's fault by any means. He was simply a victim, just like his fans that paid their money to see a performance. He fulfilled his portion of the obligation (to appear), and the promoters tried to persuade him to perform at the last minute with no prior commitment on his end. That was their plan from the start. Dude wouldn't do a half ass performance, and I don't blame him.

The promoters who promoted this show are NOTORIOUS for making up fake events in Hollywood and claiming that artists and celebrities will attend just to make a little quick cash. Coincidentally, R.Kelly sued these same promoters last year for using his name to promote an event. The suit was just settled last week ( http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_12411146?source=rss). Sorry to all of you that got got for your $40. Any time you see an event promoted by GREENLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT do your research first...it might be fake! Better luck next time.

@TreyPeezy

You cannot read. No one is saying octobersveryown is a fake site.

There is a person on Facebook posing as Drake/Official Drake and interacting with the fans as if he's the real one. Now, there's about 150000+ people on that page. He/she even has thisisdrake.blogspot.com posing as him which can cause trouble because he's on their promoting/dissing other artists. This could end up bad when you have people actually believing it's really him.

Goodness. Reading comprehension. It's NOT that hard.

1) @least you came.. because a month ago @ club sugar in hollywood they were advertising you coming and performing so ppl paid from $20-40 .. through out the night the ppl kept saying "Are you ready for drake! we just confirmed he's on his way!" .. "we now just confirmed he's in the parking lot" then they randomly ended the party .. no drake. so obviously they lied about he whole thing! *smh*

2)i was @ ur performance @ calstate l.a. & the show was really good my only problem was , THE SHOW SEEMED TO BE CATERED TO THE NEW FANS .. & SO @ THE END WHEN U SAID "I HAVE NO MORE SONGS LEFT" MY FRIENDS & I WHO'VE BEEN FANS SINCE THE 1ST MIXTAPE WERE DEF. SAD U DIDN'T DO SONGS FROM "COMEBACK SEASON" OR "ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT" :(

but all in all the whols concert was good including the opening acts! :) just next time could we here some songs from "comeback season"! :)

Its funny, I experienced something like this a couple weeks ago. Except it was a Saigon show. He was supposed to be headlining and the show was at this small venue in Santa Cruz, CA. I went with my buddy and sat through the other acts with about 5 other people. When it came time for Saigon to finally perform he bitched out... didn't even have the decency to make and explanation himself or have a promoter do so. The sound man just started cleaning up, I've never felt so let down and pissed off in my life. I started to think that maybe a lot of rappers are like this, and self centered people but what you've written has really proven to me that there are a few who do it for the love of the game and not the money. Most of all you do it because we love you, and if an artist can't understand that connection I wonder what the fuck is going on. I want to thank you Drake, for your apology, and though I was not in LA for this misconception I hope the people who were get where you're coming from. Much love fam.

I think you feel guilty as it is. If any person were put under a situation like this, I'm pretty sure that they'd do the same. But you're an artist; someone people really look up to. You're constantly being criticized and looked at under a microscope. While I understand that if you're not being paid what you deserve then you should definitely show the promoters the consequence of their actions...however, the fans weren't at fault so you always gotta look at things with a bigger perspective. You're amazing though and your fans will forgive you. Just don't become bigheaded like Kanye and you'll still have me as a fan. Hahaha jk.

Sounds to me like this club or these promoters were trying to use the relationship that Drizzy has with his fans to play him. The same way you have all these ppl on here saying he should've "performed" whether he got paid what he was supposed to or not for the fans who are innocent in this situation.(are you serious? which one of you will work for a fraction of your wages today, just because?)-- that's exactly what the promoters were hoping for-- that he would not want to disappoint his fans and they could get over. Get the eff outta here-- I woulda walked off too. If you were there, you should be mad at the club and promoters for lieing to you...

no need to apologize promoters need to get their money right and get there info correct before putting random stuff out...can't let them think "they can market you however they decide 2"..and like 40 said " do you " thats all that matters...by the way i went to CSLA and i was like front row the performance was sick...you shoulda done some classics like "City is Mine" and your version of "Still Fly" but either way you killed it.

Jai. said...

I don't know. I would have done SOMETHING for the people.
I mean, honestly, you dont need the money so I would have just brushed it off and performed to the best of my ability.
However, I would have explained to the fans,"Yo, this is a big misunderstanding but Im not gonna leave yall hanging. This is a lil taste of what you can expect when I come back for a REAL Drake show. etc"

But hey, atleast you were decent enough you address your fans on here and apologize.

Well i have a question can you explain what happend in Washington, DC. We were promised a good performance, dont get me wrong it was great but IT WAS 20 MINS!!!!! People nearly paid 2-4000 dollars to come see Drake and you only perfomed for 20 min. I personally think thats not fair and i think we deserve a better performance. People always skip over DC and half the time alot of the up and coming artists have alot of their fanbase from DC. I just think that is wrong and if you are going to defend yourself for the Cali show i feel like you should defend yourself for the DC show too because alot of ppl were highly dissapointed. BUT I STILL LOVE YOU DRAKE, SO FAR GONE STARTS MY DAY EVERYDAY!!!

That's why contracts are key! Next time have a contract and make sure you get all your money before getting to the venue.

I was there and paid for my tickets 3 days in advance. My sister also drove here from Las Vegas. Now, intitially I didn't even know who u were... I've heard your name on twitter, but I am 33 (looking 23 of course) and we just wanted to go out and have a good time.. there were lots of parties to choose from. We arrived at Element about 11pm to find the entire street packed. We were promised no waiting as our tickets were supposed to be at will call. What we found was that all the people lined up on the street had also paid in advance. We were promised to get in... well, I was standing right there when you pulled up in the suburban... and I watched you come and go... a lot of people, including myself were speaking with the promoters who continued to promise entry and a show. I knew at that point it was a scam. I stood outside for 2 hrs in 4 inch heels in the cold.. my hands were numb and I was pissed. They not only used your name, but collected a mass amount of money for a show that didn't even exist! You owe us no apology, but the fact that u went above and beyond to give one showed me you're a real ass person... u just gained a fan! I was told we will be receiving a refund... which is cool, but I am still pissed I wasted my time and my gas for some bullshit.. when u come back to LA... I will check you out! Peace!

Stop acting like a little pre-Madonna prissy bitch. You're not Jay-Z or hell Lil Wayne. You should have handled that like a professional and given your fans the show they deserve. People drove hours to see you and you duck out because money was short?

Take that pissy shit elsewhere. I only know of you because of what the gossip blogs write, not because you're on replay on any local radio stations.

Get it right. Messy promoters or not, learn what it means to be a consummate professional. If you're gonna play the prissy bitch role, check Beyonce's work ethic, you're way off mark.

You got alot to learn lil boy.

Okay...Wow, Drake some of these people commenting on here are hilarious. I'm sure you know by now no matter what you could have said on your blog about the "element" situation, people are going to have negative shit to say regardless. But you know all you could do is keep it moving through the bullshit. Cuz real fans (such as myself) always have your back. I been luvin ya drizzy even when u was doing ya thang on degrassi lol. I hope you come back to New Orleans soon cuz I missed ya show but ya voice stay blasting in my car.

Much luv.
A true fan.

Loving your fans and being conditined to SAY YOU LOVE YOUR FANS are two different things....As a Performer who loves there fans...you shoudlnt be trippin when your money is short, it kinda sucks that in your so called apology to your fans, you make sure to mention that your money wasnt right.... "MONEY TO BLOW",RIGHT....The least you couldve done was come on stage (you know, since you say you were there)
My friends and I were at the club waiting and waiting for you to come out....but....NOPE, no show by drizzy!

*heres a tip: the next time you are to host a show...and your money isn't right and decide to bail out on even hosting while theres a block full of fans.... Mabe you should show your appreciation to them...Honestly you couldve said a thing or two...i mean its a club, we werent expecting you to have a concert and bring Weezy or anything....

APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED DRIZZY!

Personally, I feel like you are deserving of respect just by adressing the situation. Other artists have cancelled shows before and nothing was said in apology or even explanation. Simply adressing it shows the respect you have for your fans. And for people complaining how hot and crowded the club was, and people pushin n shit, i was at the show in DC at Love Nightclub and its the same no matter where you see it, that wasnt LA specific..we stood for an hour and a half in the RAIN waitin to get in, and that was just the preordered ticket line.. stop crying. You're at a club.. And money is money people. I would NOT do a job for less than a promised amount thats blatent disrespect.
Drake you are an amazing artist and are bringin the game back where it needs to be.<3

OMG... Again, of all the ppl here who say he should've done "something" even though he wasn't gonna get paid what he was expected, which one of you would be okay if you walked into work tomorrow and your manager or boss says to you, "Hey, we're gonna pay you 3 dollars less per hour today..." Would you do half the work for the day, or would you bounce? Fans or not, this is this man's livelihood. You may not like it; it looks like all fun all the time, but this is business. He's got to set a precedent from jump that your not gonna play him because he's a "nice guy". Get over yourselves, redirect your misplaced anger, and go get your money back. Remember, the promoters played you too...

wow...good 2 know. i was there & had gotten my tix pre-sale online for $20..arrived early...payed the bouncer an extra dub to skip the long ass line outside..only to still wait in line an hr! tried to enjoy myself in this extra packed ass club because i knew that i would soon be enjoying the music LIVE of my new favorite artist! but soon after it was 1:30 & still no performance i knew it wasn't happening & no one could understand why. we had NO CLUE that drake was only supposed to be hosting NOR did i know he had performed at cal state LA...i would of went to that instead of the club! but i'm glad you posted this blog Drizzy...& i'm definitely still a fan. and i look forward to your energy exhausting performance the next time ur in LA!

I was in LA with 3 girl friends of mine and we came from Seattle. The tickets were sold out @ Cal State and went to the Club Element instead and waited for 3 hours to even get to the door for absolutely nothing. I understand your position as an artist and see where you're coming from at a professional stand point but really, people paid $40+ to stand in line for hours for absolutely nothing-- would it really take that much effort to explain to the crowd the situation? Money might've been short but fans put forth time and money for this event. Fans that put you to where you are today.

Late poster I know... But that night was shit... and I totally understand the dude drizzy on that night. I was at the HOB show in Chicago that turned out to be wreckless as shit due to a fight that broke out at about 4am that ultimately resulted in a dude being shot in the ass outside of the venue. Hit an early flight to cali(San Diego) and heard Drake was to perform at elements so I hit a friend who knew the promoter and a copped a ticket from the dude the night of the show (for 20) under the impression that it was OFFICIAL!!! wasnt hard to believe knowing that a lot of your early shows have been at clubs. It was bad business that these cats tried to monopolize of it and OVERSOLD the venue; which shortly after 130am got shut down by the fire marshal. Try again LA promoters, wouldve called the BBB if I could've. Need more professional folks running events like this. I'm sure they started taxing for 60+ when they realized they were short. Not to mention the bottleless-goon-filled-stage. I'd say you need to come back to the Chicago ASAP!!! just eliminate the uncards... cats were Horriiiibbblllleeee!!! Stay Focused mane!
