I enjoyed the review, however I wish critics would stop comparing this excellent piece of work to "808's & Heartbreak". I don't think Drake even comes off at following or biting Ye's style. There is geniunely real R&B and Hip-Hop. They need to notice the difference and not cast "So Far Gone" as a "
808" re-do or something. Keep up the great work and I wish nothing, but the best.

this is major drake, congratulations man, it is much deserved
just keep working on that album because right now all eyes and ears are waiting on you.

Ahhh Donte that's exactly what I came here to say...the comparison is because Drake sings and raps...Kanye's just done that lately... "So Far Gone" is nothing like anything out there...makes most other music incredibly disappointing.

But more importantly, New York Times says "one of the year's best hip hop projects"...damn straight...looking forward to more brilliance.

This mixtape isn't anything like 808's, drake can actually sing on his songs and not use auto tune. Don't get me wrong Ye is dope but 2 different projects. Thanks for reppin T.O and keepin us on the map can't wait for the album drop.

congrats! tha mixtape is a bangger i can honestly say i can listen to it all the way to the end!. I just hate that when someone new comes out everyone has to say " oh he/she sounds like". he does kinda remind me of kanye but now the (new kanye)
the old one lol and drake sings kanye is just yells over autotune lol

Another great review.. I don't see the comparisons to 808's that much except for the singing. Drizzy goes way harder than 'ye honestly..

Why do they say Lil Wayne is your mentor? You make sense continually throughout your songs and gradually build the story's concept. Tho his punches are eccentric, he bounces around! And according to "November 18" you just met the dude.

No disrespect to the dude but did they not listen to "Room for Improvement" or "Comeback Season"

ehh.. the industry i guess. ride that wave fam! Excellent ALBUM, it's getting me through this season here in Germany! God bless and continued success to you!

SFG IS like 808s. They both are deeply expressive and personal. You can't deny that. I just think it's a coincidence. Remember when Drake said SFG was gonna come out in August? If that was going to be anything like it is now, what would the reaction have been?

When NY Times is reviewing it, and it's FREE, you know that's some hardcore buzz.

and I'm just as excited that he's getting all this publicity because I remember when he was little jimmy on degrassi with a 'fro and no lining. Now he's Drizzy Drake and he's what the game's been missing for a long while.

amazing - but not surprising. (:

im glad they gave him his deserved props but im so sick of people making the comparison between SFG and 808's...i understand that they PROBALY meant it in a positive manner but all the "newfound" drake fans and people who arent fans are gettin the idea that Drake wasnt a singer until after 808s dropped......i dont know, that irks me....but congrats to Drake anyway!

tired of the 808/So Far Gone comparisons...... drizzy got vocals, ye' used a machine. Both good music, but very different

Congrattsss =) I love all the love Drizzy's getting.
Not really feeling how he keeps getting compared to Kanyeezy. Both great amounts of musical talent but..you know..everyone's different.

ok so it's STAMPED that you're doing your thing and making your presence known out here in the world right! But what I want to know is when are you going to start doing your own shows (i.e. underground spots like 9:30Club in DC and Black Cat) ?? Just wondering...

Concrete Geniusz said...

not surprised, since room for improvement came out, i've been following your music. As much as hip hop has changed in the past few years you've kept it real. good shit drake.

Im a little bothered by the Kanye comparison too because I think that this is very different. Great review nontheless. Congrats.

I know videos of tracks on mixtapes are rare, but when i close my eyes and listen to Uptown, it makes me think im near like a rundown juke joint in the south, where its hot as hell, this song is playing, and people are swing dancing but mixing in modern hip hop moves...and the lyrics are flowin from an old school mike...there are a ridiculously small number of lyricists out today that can make me think of anything other than shaking my ass or what im gonna eat tonight...

Rian Dukez said...

So Far Gone is so ill my dude. Keep em coming. You, wayne, and cash money got the game on like Lyrically and creative wise.

Oh and can you please get on the "I Feel It in The Air" beat, I just know theres a story of bars waiting for you to kill that track...Keep up the great music

This is amazing because I love Hip Hop I like to wearing with big t-shirts, big pants, collars and I try to get the same hairstyle, that's why I think that project is amazing.

Kanye West's 35-minute super-video, Runaway, peaks with a parade. Fireworks flash while red hoods march through a field. At the center of the spectacle is a huge, pale, cartoonish rendering of Michael Jackson's head. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy's gargantuan "All of the Lights" soundtracks the procession, with Kanye pleading, "Something wrong, I hold my head/ MJ gone, our nigga dead."
